What cybersecurity taught me about running companies

I studied cybersecurity at Jharkhand Raksha Shakti University, and almost everything I use to run a company came from that classroom rather than a business book.

Threat modelling teaches you to ask what can go wrong before you build. Applied to a venture, it becomes a habit of listing failure modes — a single customer, a single supplier, a single person holding critical knowledge — and designing them out early.

Least privilege teaches you to give exactly the access required and nothing more. In an organisation that becomes clear ownership: defined mandates, defined approvals, no ambiguity about who decides what.

Incident response teaches you that the plan matters more than the panic. Every company will have a bad quarter, a lost client, a compliance scare. What separates durable businesses is having a rehearsed response.

Security is ultimately about trust under adversarial conditions. So is business.
